Butterfly pea is known as “Bunga Telang” in malay words. The striking characteristic of the butterfly pea is its’ deep blue petals with a little yellow marking at the center. Different from other common flowers which consist of 5 petals, butterfly pea only has 2 petals, the bigger petals usually is at the bottom and the smaller petal is at the top. It is a creeping plant and can be eaten. Some of the Malaysian cuisine such as the food dye of the “Nasi Kerabu” rice or some coloring in the Nyonya Kuih main ingredient came from this flower.
